Abstract

This paper together with its Part I investigates the impact of relaying and adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) on data throughput in narrowband multi-hop wireless ad-hoc networks. In particular, Part II focuses on the performance evaluation of single-hop transmission, relaying only and relaying combined with AMC in a network with time division multiple access and constant/variable bit rate (CBR/VBR) traffic using computer simulations. The results provide insights into the impact of the number of nodes on the applicability of AMC. Additionally, the amount of VBR data that can be transmitted in addition to CBR data using AMC is evaluated. For our investi-gation a physical layer for narrowband long range application is considered, which is subject of Part I of this paper. Subsequently, we depict a novel simulation environment which contains the detailed physical layer taking into account the digital audio broadcast (DAB) channel model from Part I.
